In terms of price, that is why Fragrance mooncake, i.e., "pure lotus paste" with single yolk is sold at merely SGD 5.50.
How was the taste? It was not pure lotus paste. Lotus seed is expensive, and so is its paste. If you expect lotus paste, you will be disappointed. If you just wanted to have something sweet, it is not bad.
In Singapore, it is rare to get a mooncake with pure lotus paste. Mostly are adulterated with mungbean or other paste. There are several brands that used pure lotus paste and these brands also catered to have less sugar in the product.
Pure lotus with less sugar will enhance the flavour of lotus. If you had never tried a mooncake that is made of pure lotus, you should try once. Bengawan Solo is one brand that we preferred, and the same pure lotus paste single yolk mooncake is SGD 10.50. Almost twice as much as Fragrance's.
It was not surprising that we were disappointed with Fragrance's but in terms of price, we can't complain.
